GUWAHATI: In yet another round of political mudslinging, the Assam BJP has held the Opposition Congress responsible for the present unrest in Assam.

Addressing the media here at the state BJP office here on Saturday afternoon, party spokesperson, Rupam Goswami alleged that Congress was adhering to a divide and rule policy to destabilise the state government.

“Congress is making different statements in Barak Valley and Brahmaputra Valley. Besides,  what they are saying in the state contradicts with the statements made in Delhi. So it is apparent that Congress is adopting a divide and rule policy to destabilise the government,” Goswami said.

The BJP spokesperson further refuted reports that the party workers had supported the Assam bandh called on Saturday by the All Assam Bengali Yuva Chatra Parishad and other organisations in the wake of the killing of five persons from the Bengali community in the Dhola area of Tinsukia district on Thursday evening. “There is no truth in these reports,” he said.

Meanwhile, the party has sent a letter to the parliamentary committee against BJP Hojai MLA, Shiladitya Dev over his controversial remarks.

“Shiladitya’s statements are not the party’s statements. However, the party has to adhere to certain procedures. If he is proven guilty, action will be taken against him,” Goswami said.
