SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) is waiting for the dust to settle over common candidate before it decides which party’s Lok Sabha candidate to support.
KHNAM president Pyndapbor Saibon told The Shillong Times, “We will wait for the picture to be clear and then we will decide whom to support for the LS polls.”
The UDP has named former MLA Jemino Mawthoh as the common candidate from Shillong seat. Other allies too have expressed their intention to contest independently. But the jury is still out on who will be ‘MDA’s common candidate’.
Council Elections
The KHNAM is preparing to contest the district council polls. The party has announced its candidates for the election.
Thomas Passah and Rocky Hek are its candidates from Jaiaw and Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, respectively.
It will finalise the list of candidates for Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council this month.
“The party base in Khasi Hills first needs to be strengthened and then we will probably move to Jaintia Hills,” Saibon said.
The KHNAM has one MDC, Adelbert Nongrum who is also the MLA from North Shillong.
