TURA: The decision of the West Garo Hills Bus Association (WGHBA) to raise the fares of vehicles travelling from Tura to Dalu has not gone down well with several organizations from Dalu who have questioned the rationality behind the move.

Organizations from Dalu including the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), GSMC, Mothers’ Union and the AYWO came down heavily on the bus association and said that there was no logic behind the decision to enhance the fares of vehicles as price of diesel had gone down considerably.

“Earlier when the price of diesel per litre was around Rs 75.13, the bus fare from Tura to Dalu had remained at Rs 75/-. But now, when the price of diesel has gone down to Rs 71/-, they have raised the bus fare to Rs 99/-. This is illogical and we strongly oppose it,” the organizations said.

The organizations added that the total distance from Dobasipara Bus station in Tura to Dalu is 48 kilometres and to Barengapara Market only 47 kilometres. The organizations alleged that the bus association by rounding up the distance to 52 kilometres was now charging Rs 99/- which is condemnable.

“The West Garo Hills Bus Association must review its decision and act immediately. If the price of the bus fare is not brought down, we will be taking necessary steps of our own,” the organizations warned.
