Diwali celebrated across Shillong city

SHILLONG: The Festival of lights Diwali was celebrated across the Shillong city with traditional fervour and gaiety on Wednesday. The festival, which marks the victory of good over evil, is celebrated by lighting up houses, temples and other public

However,  there was total violation of the Supreme Court and orders of the Deputy Commissioner  which had fixed the time for bursting of low decibel and low emission crackers  from 8:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M., in the entire District as crackers were bursting throughout the whole day and its intensity increased soon after the sunset.

East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said that the city and the entire city had been divided into sectors and police patrolling was conducted throughout the city.

He also said that the  officers had been asked to ensure strict compliance of the Supreme Court order  regarding the timing of bursting of crackers

In addition, fire tenders were also stationed in different places in the city to attend to any emergencies.
