Parents to air grievances against private schools
Shillong: The Step by Step School’s parents under the leadership of Banshai Marbaniang along with A. Papang will organise a meeting for all the parents whose wards are studying in private schools. The meeting will be held at U Soso Tham Auditorium, State Central Library, Shillong from 10 am onwards on November 12. The motive behind this meeting is that most of the privately run schools have been functioning without any regulator and imposing their whims and fancies ranging from school fees to school mismanagement etc upon the parents causing anxiety to them. The meeting is for the parents to air their grievances.

Community awareness on disaster management in EGH
TURA: The 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), based in Assam will be conducting familiarisation exercise for community awareness on disaster management in East Garo Hills from November 12 to 18. According to an official release issued in this regard, the awareness for teachers, students and staff of Williamnagar Government College will be organised in the college premises and for police officers of the district at DRDA Hall on November 12 and 13 respectively. The same programme will be held at Warimagre locality of Williamnagar on flood mitigation measures and for the government officers, staff, etc. at Deputy Commissioner’s office premises on November15 and 16 respectively. On November 17, awareness will be conducted for the merchants, traders, etc. at Rongjeng Bazaar of the district.

Voluntary blood donor day observed in WKH
NONGSTOIN: The Office of the District Medical & Health Officer, West Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society and Blood Bank, NEIGRIHMS on Tuesday observed the National Voluntary Blood Donor Day8 at the 4th MLP Battalion, Sohpian under the theme ‘Happiness is donating blood’. During the programme, District Health Education Officer, C B Kynta stressed on the main objectives of the programme which is observed all over India and also added that it aimed to create awareness to people about the importance of voluntary blood donation. The programme was also attended by Dr. Somapika, MO, Blood Banks, NEIGRIHMS, Ariva Laloo Asst, Director (VBD) Blood Transfusion Services (MACS), V. Singh, IPS Commandant, 4th MLP Battalion, Sohpian, Dr. E.B Kharmawlong, Pathologist, Civil Hospital Nongstoin beside others.

Programme on career guidance & counseling held
TURA: A programme on career guidance was held on Tuesday at Christ King Secondary School, Kharkutta for the students of Secondary and Higher Secondary level. The programme was sponsored by the North Garo Hills District Administration in collaboration with the Sports and Youth Affairs Department. Kharkutta MLA, Rupert Momin who attended the programme as chief guest enlightened the students and parents on the need to be aware of various career opportunities available in the government sector as well as in private sector and urged them to work hard to be successful. Assistant Employment Officer, Kajorie Sangma and Skill Development Officer (ADB), Peter Marak were the resource person in the programme. Principal of Christ King Secondary School, Fr Anthony also spoke at length about various career options available in today’s world.

   Workshop cum heritage event in Tura 
TURA: A two-day workshop cum heritage event called ‘Ethnica’ organised by the Department of History and Archaeology was inaugurated at NEHU, Tura Campus on Tuesday. Pro Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Prof G Singaiah was the chief guest while Prof Meeta Deka from Department of History, Guwahati University was the guest of honour of the programme. Different speakers at the workshop emphasised on the need to identify and preserve the tangible and intangible heritage and the need to keep up with times by incorporating heritage with modern technological platforms and for retaining social, economic and ethnic identities. Several individuals including Sembertush A Sangma, Sotjak Ch Marak and Colnat B Sangma were also felicitated during the programme for their contributions and achievements in the field of Garo traditional art and Literature. Events like traditional sports and others will also be conducted on the second day.
