4th Amur Falcon fest begins in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: The famous Falcon Festival, which is held annually at Tyrso village in Ri Bhoi District, begins on Wednesday.
DC Rosetta Mary Kurbah inaugurated the two-day 4th Amur Falcon Festival was organised by the Tyrso Valley Wildlife Protection Society (TVWPS).
The festival which usually attracts many tourists not just from the state but from across the country in the previous editions, this year witnesses a few tourists. Leaders of the TVWPS, J Shadap and Alos Nongpoh informed that the festival was organised to create awareness on the needs to protect the Amur Falcon.
Amur Falcon, a migratory birds which travelled all the way from Siberia once in a year.
“Organising this kind of festival will help in spreading the important message on the need to protect the environment, wild animals and birds etc,” the leaders said, adding that there might come a time when these Amur Falcon birds will no longer visit here if we continue destroying the forest and the environment.
The inaugural programme was also attended by Mawryngkneng MDC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, Political Adviser to the Chief Minister, Allantry F Dkhar, the headmen and the villagers.
