SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong will visit Chibinang on Friday to inspect the Rongai Valley Medium irrigation project, which has remained embroiled in controversy for over a decade.
Informing this here on Wednesday, Phulbari MLA SG Esmatur Mominin said Tynsong, who is also in charge of PWD, and top officials of the department will inspect the barrage, the office complex and other segments of the project.
“We will look for options to revive it,” the MLA added.
The project was sanctioned in 1990 by the Planning Commission, New Delhi, at a cost of Rs 1,630 lakh. The barrage was completed but later several controversies arose over payment to contractors and issues of payment for land acquisition.
