SHILLONG: The state BJP leadership has been asked to issue a show-cause notice to the member who had brought allegations of cash for ticket during the state executive committee meeting on September 15.
Curiously, the party has not ordered any probe into the allegation to ascertain who took the money and instead the leadership chose to target the whistle blower.
BJP leader AL Hek said on Wednesday the allegation by the candidate was discussed during a meeting of the party’s core committee. Ajay Jamwal, the BJP’s organising secretary in-charge North East, “made it clear that such allegations have to be substantiated by evidence”.
“In politics, anyone can make wild allegations but proof is required for such claims,” Hek said.
The member, who was one of the BJP candidates in the Assembly elections in February, had said during the September review meeting that a few leaders sitting on the dais took money from him to issue ticket.
During the second half of the meeting, the candidate had repeated his allegations twice and said the money was paid at Pinewood Hotel.
Besides Hek, those who were present on the dais were BJP central leader in charge Meghalaya Nalin Kohli, state BJP chief Shibun Lyngdoh, general secretary Banshailang Khongwir, and BJP functionaries David Kharsati, Earnest Mawrie and Sumita Banerjee.
