Agnes Kharshiing critical but stable

SHILLONG: Condition of the CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing who was attacked by a mob along with one of her colleagues is critical but stable.

Informing this here on Friday,    Dr P Bhattacharya, HoD, Anesthesia and critical care  said that  the doctors were doing everything possible to improve condition.

The spokesperson of NEGIRIHMS also informed Agnes Kharshiing was on ventilator and her  parameters were stable but doctors considered the situation as critical since she was on ventilator and in the ICU.

It was informed that Kharshiing had head injuries and fractures in ribs and  backbone  besides blood in lungs and brain.

On the other hand, Amita Sangma is stable and she is improving

CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and her associate Amita Sangma were brutally assaulted with stones and wooden poles by a group of around 40 people, including truck drivers and coal traders, at Tuber Shohshrieh in East Jaintia Hills on Thursday afternoon.

The attack took place a day after Kharshiing detected five coal-laden trucks parked at Mawiong Rim in Shillong, which were later seized by the police. The activists had gone to Tuber to follow up the case.

Meanwhile, two people were arrested on Friday in connection with the  attack on Kharshiing and her colleague in East Jaintia Hills

East Jaintia Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtnnger in a statement said that the suspects, Elphon Dkhar and Meklison Siangshai, were arrested in Kongong area in a pre-dawn raid.

He said that a suo moto case was taken up by police since the victims are not in position to file an FIR as they are in a serious condition.

Meanwhile,  many people including Urban Affairs Minister, Hamlet Dohling, Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope and others visited the Hospital on Friday to check on  kharshiing.
