New DGP to tour Garo Hills

SHILLONG: The new Meghalaya DGP, R. Chandranathan, who assumed office on Thursday, said he would visit Garo Hills and other parts of the state to familiarise himself with the ground reality.
This is the first posting of Chandranathan to Meghalaya though he is an officer of the Assam-Meghalaya IPS cadre.
He said the police should go to the people and people friendly approach is the need of the hour.
The officer said maintaining internal security, law and order and intelligence gathering are his priorities. “I am committed to giving my 100 percent to ensure overall improvement of the state,” he said.
Training
Chandranathan said training of police men and women in modern investigation methods will be his focus.
“We have to improve our investigation whether it is in tackling crime against women and children or other crimes,” he said.
