Fire at ONGC workshop controlled prompt

GUWAHATI:ONGC immediately took control over a minor fire that broke out at its Central Workshop, Sivasagar in Assam at 12:20 PM on Saturday on November 10 at the power supply unit located inside the workshop due to electrical short circuit occurred at the con- trol panel.

ONGC mobilised fire services and all resources at its command to take control over the situation and the fire was immediately controlled and extinguished within five minutes. The smoke that came out during the fire was due to the presence of rubber materials in the unit.

Because of ONGC’s strict Standard Operating Procedures no one sustained any injury during the fire incident. There was no loss of property also during the incident except burning of few cables.

The ONGC has always been putting prime importance in safeguarding people, property and environment. The company takes utmost care to ensure safety of both men and material strictly following standard safety norms / SOP’s while carrying out its operational activities in ensuring the energy security of the country.

The Superintendent of Poice , Sivasagar, Subodh Kumar Sonowal visited the place and congratulated team Fire Services, ONGC for prompt action to control the fire.

It is worth mentioning that ONGC, Fire Services have also been extending firefighting services during emergencies, thus saving lives and property in the surrounding areas.”
