TURA: The proposed shifting of the Social Forest Range Office at Gasuapara (Kondok) in South Garo Hills to Chokpot of the same district has been strongly opposed by several organizations from the area who feel that the office is one of the few valuable assets to the people of the area.

Organizations including the ADE from Gasuapara, GSU units from Gasuapara and Ruga, Mothers’ Union, Nokmas and Sordars and locality leaders from different villages held a meeting at Gasuapara Playground on Monday morning and expressed strong opposition to the move.

“The Forest Range Office is valuable to the area as it gives assistance to the people whenever it is needed. We condemn the proposal to shift it to another place and strongly oppose the move,” the organizations said.

Another issue discussed during the meeting is the non-repair of the Dimapara to Sibbari stretch of road on NH-62 which has been abandoned for so long. The organizations while demanding that repair works are immediately carried out on the said road warned that they would resort to their own course of action if their plea was ignored.
