TURA: A leader of the All Garo Hills Primary School Teachers Association from Ganchikalak under Chokpot Zone has claimed that the recent allegation made by the Mindikgre Regional unit of the GSU, that many teachers from Chokpot region are absconding from their duties, is untrue.

Greneth M Sangma, the President of the Mindikgre Regional unit of the GSU on several occasions in the past had raised the issue of non-performing teachers from Chokpot and its adjoining areas and even named two alleged erring teachers- Chaban D Sangma and Starson M Sangma.

However, the Secretary of the AGHPSTA from Ganchikalak, Sencly M Sangma in a statement issued on Tuesday claimed that the two teachers belong to the Ganchikalak centre and are performing their duties just like other teachers from the area.

Sangma went on to state that the allegation by the GSU leader was made without verifying the situation with the school managing committee or approaching the teachers named in the complaint to get their views on the matter.

Meanwhile, the GSU leader from Mindikgre who first raised the issue when contacted said that the association (AGHPSTA) should first produce necessary evidence to support their claim before sticking up for the tainted teachers.

“How can they claim that they are efficiently performing their duties when there have been so many complaints by villagers? If they want to vouch for their own, they should first produce a complete report of their performances and make it known to the public of the area as proof,” Sangma said.
