Truck drivers extorted in NH-44

SHILLONG: The Jaintia Hills Truck Owners’ Association president N Chullet and general secretary H Suiam lodged a complaint that on November 5 around 8.30 pm, some commercial and other truckers reported that one person claiming to be the president of NEIPF forcibly stopped their vehicles at Kongong on NH-44 and demanded Rs 3,000 from each truck. Reportedly, the accused used a small arm and threatened the truck drivers with dire consequences if they refused to pay. Due to rush hour and commuters passing through the mentioned place, the said person left the place in a brown Mahindra Bolero without registration plate.
