TURA: The Mindikgre Regional Unit of the GSU in South Garo Hills on Friday urged Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma to look into several developmental issues plaguing the area.
A memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister from the union demanded among others the establishment of a police out post at Mindikgre. It said that Mindikgre being located in a remote area was prone to law and order problems and police presence was needed in the area to deter anti-social elements from committing criminal activities. The establishment of a police outpost would ease the problems of the people, it said.
The early completion of the 10 km stretch of road from Eringgre to Mindikgre, which has since long been lying abandoned in a deplorable state was also sought by the union in the memorandum. It further requested that the remaining 2 km to Baghmara PHE junction is included in the road repair project as earlier proposed by NH SDO, Shazar R Marak.
On the health front, the union sought the up-gradation of the Public Sub Centre (PSC) at Mindikgre to Public Health Centre (PHC). Pointing out that the existing PSC in the area which is lacking in basic facilities was catering to the medical needs of a large population, the union sought that the same is up-graded to a PHC.
Some other demands made by the union in the memorandum included the up-gradation of the Balkal A’sim Deficit UP School to Government Secondary School and the Mindikgre Adhoc Secondary School to Government Deficit Secondary School, setting up of Secondary School at Mindikgre, shifting of the Block Office from Baghmara municipal area to Mindikgre or its new creation at Mindikgre and road connectivity and continuation of NH-62 from Mindikgre to Baromile via Chokpot.
Meanwhile, in a separate memorandum to the Director of School Education and Literacy in Shillong, the union sought the construction of new buildings and supply of furniture for several run down government and adhoc schools in the area.
The union informed the official that a recent spot inspection led to the revelation that many schools from the area are in a deplorable state and also without furniture.
The schools mentioned in the memorandum included the Rompa A’sim Government LP School, Bagangre (Samkagre) Government LP School, Mindikgre Government LP School, Gara Songgital Government LP School, Dokgre Government LP School, Balkal A’sim Government Deficit UP School and the Mindikgre Adhoc Secondary School.
