NONGSTOIN: A 66-year-old Nokma of a village in West Khasi Hills was abducted on Thursday night by a group of unidentified men.
Sources said a group of about five men came to Puni Sangma’s house at Riangchi village around 11pm and banged on the grilled door as they called out the Nokma’s name.
Three men were carrying pistols, the sources said, and added that the men insisted that they needed to speak to Sangma.
Initially, Sangma’s daughter was hesitant but when the men insisted she opened the grill door lock.
The men asked the Nokma to come out and when he came, they asked Sangma to come with them.
Sangma was unwilling to go with them as it was late but the men took him forcefully.
Before leaving the men took down the daughter’s phone number and told her that they would contact them on the number.
They also threatened the family with consequences if they informed anyone about the abduction.
Sangma’s wife, Hendila G Marak, filed an FIR and mentioned that there was no ransom call so far.
