65th All India Cooperative Week Celebrated in Tura

TURA: The 65th All India Cooperative Week Celebration was held at the Conference Hall of Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd Tura on Monday with the theme “Inclusive Growth and Good Governance through Cooperatives for Rural Prosperity”. The program was organized by Cooperation Department, Government of Meghalaya, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd Shillong in collaboration with the State Level Cooperative Federations.

 

Vice Chairman, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd, J R Marak while speaking on the occasion stated that cooperatives are the major economic force of the country if people take full advantage of the benefit it provides to the people of the region. Showing his appreciation towards the Cooperative Movement for uplifting the economic status of the people, he urged the co-operators as well as members of the societies to help each other and promote their cooperatives to attain greater heights. He also requested to revive the defunct cooperative societies in the region.

Sub- Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Tura B Barman dwelt at length on the significance of the main theme for this year’s celebration of Cooperative week which aims to develop the economic growth in rural areas.

 

The Manager, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd, Tura, J N Sangma, spoke on the topic of the day ‘Cooperative for Youth’ where he highlighted on the issue of unemployment faced by the state and the country as a whole, and therefore it is imperative to promote and strengthen the cooperative movement for creating employment so as to enable the people especially the unemployed youth to make their livelihood more institutionalized. Further he informed the gathering about various activities including loans for unemployed youth, education loans provided to the students, other job opportunities, banking facilities amongst others.

 

During the function, ‘Cooperative for Women’ was delivered by S R Marak, Senior Cooperative Officer, Tura while ‘Cooperative for Weaker Sections was delivered by V Valentine Hembron, District Project Manager, Basin Development Unit, Tura and Senior Cooperative Officer, Tura C R Marak delivered on the formation, progress and functions of the Cooperative Movement in the region.

 

Earlier, in the function Messages from the President, National Cooperative Union of India Chandra Paul Singh was also read by Junior Cooperative Officer, T W Momin.
