SHILLONG: The Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC), Regional Office of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura, Region Ministry of Information and Broadcasting organised a regional orientation workshop for field officials on Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Awareness Campaign at Presbyterian Church of India, Lower Lachumiere in the city on Monday.
The objective of the workshop was to update knowledge, sensitise and equip the field officers of the region on the theme, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Awareness Campaign. The intensive Special Outreach programme will be carried out in Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura till January.
Speaking during the inaugural session, Gaigondin Panmei, Financial Advisor, North Eastern Council, Shillong said that such programmes will help to reach out to the majority of people, specially living in rural and remote areas.
He also appreciated the initiative of the BOC for organising periodical workshop to energise and sharpen the knowledge of field officers to meet the challenges of the fast changing times.
He further emphasised that unless everyone is part of a change system, it will be difficult to achieve the objective of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.
Quoting Gandhi, Panmei said, “Sanitation is more important than Political freedom.”
T. Hynniewta, Station Director, Doordarshan Kendra Shillong, in his speech urged the field officers to be the eyes and voice of Government. He stressed in the need to segregate the waste into bio-degradable and non-biodegradable in order to have a cleaner environment with a better place to live in.
“We need to be very sensitive and maintain a balanced approach while reaching out to the people at the grass root level in order to link effectively,” said Dr Engam Pame, Director, BOC.
In the technical session, resource persons from Swachh Bharat Mission, PHE, Khrawkupar Suja, Sanitation Engineer and Willybertstar Diengdoh, SLWM Consultant delivered their presentation on the occasion.
