SHILLONG: The Congress on Monday said sitting MP Vincent Pala will get the party ticket to contest Shillong seat despite the MPCC general secretary John Kharshiing expressing concern over party not inviting applications.
The Opposition Chief Whip and Congress MLA P T Sawkmie said in due course of time, the party will invite applications but the sitting MP will be the choice of the party.
Kharshiing had said the AICC should first conduct primaries (referendum) to select Lok Sabha candidates and winnability should be the criteria.
“Whatever expressed by John Kharshiing are his personal views,” Sawkmie said.
According to Sawkmie, the party will first concentrate on district council polls before paying attention to the Lok Sabha polls.
