SHILLONG: The special session of the Assembly scheduled for November 27 will deal with a new resolution for recognition to Khasi-Garo languages, besides the formation of an Assembly Committee on climate and environment.
Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy said on Monday that the special session will be held on November 27 and two agenda will be taken up, one on the fresh resolution on Khasi-Garo languages and secondly the constitution of the first Assembly committee on environment.
The special session will pass the rectified resolution on Khasi-Garo languages passed by the House unanimously on September 27.
There was a necessity to hold the special session to rectify the hurdles to fulfil the criteria such as creation of Sahitya Akademi or Sabha and the use of Khasi as the medium of instruction in educational institutions as mentioned in the first resolution.
The Khasi Authors’ Society had urged the government to remove these hurdles from the resolution so that the Centre will deal with the resolution positively.
Assembly tender
The tender of the bidders for construction of a new Assembly building will be opened on November 22.
Roy said if there are more tenders, these will be examined.
