KHADC discusses menace of drug abuse

SHILLONG: The growing menace of drug addiction was raised in the Winter Session of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

Replying to the motion brought by MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri, KHADC CEM HS Shylla said the matter was discussed at the meeting of traditional chiefs on October 3 even as he said that the Executive Committee (EC) would take the matter seriously.

Moving the motion, Kharpuri said the Dorbar Shnong should be vigilant while also expressing concern on the lack of proper rehabilitation centers.

Supporting the motion, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MDC Adelbert Nongrum said medication, counseling for drug addicts was needed.
