SHILLONG: June Eliana R Marak, the widow of Clement Marak, has not yet decided whether to contest the by-poll in Selsella.
The Assembly constituency fell vacant after the death of the Congress MLA in October. June told The Shillong Times that she “is undecided” and the Congress too has not approached her.
This is the first time that June spoke to a media house after the death of her husband.
“I am just going to meet people and thank them as this is what my husband wanted,” said June.
Marak was a three-time MLA from Selsella.
The year 2019 is going to be action-packed as parties have three challenges — the Lok Sabha election, district council polls and Selsella by-poll.
While the buzz is surrounding the first two, political leaders have started working for the by-poll quietly because the seat has to be filled by March.
BJP MLA AL Hek had said the party, being a national entity, should contest the by-poll.
The NPP too is contemplating contesting the by-poll and a top rank leader, while speaking to reporters, sounded optimistic that the party would be able to win Selsella.
