TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), East Zone comprising of district headquarters Williamnagar along with its regional units like Nengkra, Songsak, Dobu, Rongjeng and Samanda has resolved to de-recognise both factions of the GSU CEC- the interim body and the GSU CEC led by Tengsak Momin.
“The CEC interim body which was created in year 2014 for a period of six months has already expired, but the same interim body is still continuing till date. There is no sanction of law under the Constitution of the Union to recognise them as interim body,” the union said in a statement.
According to the union, recently, some members of the interim body had taken the name of the GSU for a particular occasion the details of which were published in the local media.
“We do not need the interim body to continue and want a fresh election so that the CEC can function normally. The so called CEC interim body is no longer recognized in East Garo Hills as it has already expired and we have asked the general public, merchant association etc to inform us if anyone is found using the name of the GSU. Strong action will be taken against such persons in future,” the union warned.
The union said that unless a proper GSU CEC election is conducted at CEC headquarters, Tura, any other faction of the union will not be tolerated.
“We do not accept the interim body or the previous GSU CEC. They should not take any initiatives in the name of the union in our area in future,” it said.
