SHILLONG: The NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) is facing a daunting task to bring all its allies on one platform for a common candidate but the NPP leadership in the state is confident that the alliance would last its full term even if a new Government is formed in Delhi next year.
Talking to media persons here recently, NPP State president, WR Kharlukhi said that all the parties might project their own candidate as the common candidate but he was sure that all the allies at the end would agree on one common candidate which will be selected by the MDA which will meet very shortly.
When asked about BJP which is looking for options to field its own candidate in the Lok Sabha polls, he said that the BJP being a national party and they have their own policy
Stating that the MDA coalition was formed after the elections, he said that the party could not say anything in individual parties projecting their own candidates.
On being asked about the idea of common symbol for the proposed common candidate, he said that the matter would be discussed in the alliance.
“ I am 105 percent confident that this Government would last even if there is a new Government in New Delhi next year,” Kharlukhi said.
It may be mentioned that a likely meeting of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) next week will discuss the important issue— whether to name a common candidate for the Lok Sabha election or not.
Both UDP and HSPDP have proposed the names of common candidates.
