SHILLONG: NEHU associate professor and head of the department of bio-medical engineering, Dinesh Bhatia, was arrested by CBI for taking bribe on Friday.
Sources said Bhatia was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act for taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 in cash. He was caught red-handed while accepting the money from a complainant, who is pursuing his PhD under him.
The money was part of the proceeds of fake bills sanctioned by the accused professor which were transferred to the bank account of the complainant.
Sources said following the instructions of Bhatia, the complainant had withdrawn the cash and while handing over the money, the accused was caught red-handed by the CBI officers.
A case was registered based on a written complaint about the illegal money transaction and searches were conducted at his office and residential premises.
