SHILLONG: Amita Sangma, who is recovering from injuries after she and Agnes Kharshiing were assaulted for probing illegal coal mining and transportation in East Jaintia Hills, has petitioned the DGP to arrest the members of the ruling party for their involvement in the attack.
In the letter addressed to the DGP on Friday, Amita said there is a need to immediately arrest identified criminals like Nidamon Chullet and others, who are members of the ruling party.
Chullet is the working president of NPP East-West Jaintia Hills.
“Ensure immediate arrest of the identified criminals, Nidamon Chullet and others who assaulted and attempted to murder me, Agnes and the driver when we were taking pictures of coal-laden trucks in East Jaintia Hills,” Amita said.
She also made an appeal to the office of the DGP to take swift action as it was learnt that Chullet and others who led the attack belong to the ruling party.”Even if they belong to the ruling party or any other party, or even if they hold high positions, the police should not only arrest small fry, but the main mastermind of such attacks and criminal action,” the letter said.
