SHILLONG: The Election Commission of India has replied to the petition filed by KHNAM legislator Adelbert Nongrum recognising him as the head of the party.
According to sources, Nongrum, who is the party’s lone MLA from North Shillong, received the letter from the EC on November 18.
The MLA is the working president of the KHNAM and THS Bonney, the party’s MP candidate and former IFS officer, is the secretary.
When contacted, Nongrum confirmed that he had received the letter. He said he would formally address the media on the letter on Monday.
Earlier, Nongrum and Bonney had gone to Delhi to submit a petition to the EC to claim the leadership of the party. It was the fallout of the alleged rift in the party following differences between Nongrum and former KHNAM president Pyndapborthiaw Saibon.
Other prominent office bearers include Glenbert Khongwir, Strong Pillar Kharjana and Lambok Thangkhiew.
