SHILLONG: DD Lapang, the chief advisor to the government, has said there should be an independent probe into the attack on activists Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Lapang said while he had already conveyed his anguish over the attack through John Kharshiing, brother of Agnes, he prefers an independent probe into the incident.
“Independent inquiry should be there. Justice should be there as people expect police to be the guardians of law and instill confidence in the minds of the people”, he said.
There is a demand for independent probe from several quarters since there is allegation of police-coal mafia nexus.
“There should not be any compromise on finding out the truth,” Lapang said.
He also wished Agnes a speedy recovery so that she can carry on with her social work to expose corruption so that there will be transparency and accountability.
