TURA: The A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), a new body formed by former GNLA Chairman, Champion R Sangma has pledged full support to the rally on separate Garoland State being staged by the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) in Shillong on December 5.

“We have decided to support them (GSMC) with our heart and soul until the demand for separate Garoland State is assured by the Government of India. We know that to demand for the same is our constitutional right,” it said.

Stating that Garos are entitled to their own state under the States Reorganization Act of 1956, the movement reminded that the demand for the same began in the 19th century by the first Garo Statesman, Late Sonaram R Sangma.

Reminding that even Late P A Sangma had fought his last election on this very issue, AHAM said that it was fortunate to have the late leader’s son as the Chief Minister, who they hoped had the same spirit.

“Let our support send a message to all Garo people that ‘We are one by blood’ and must stand with a sense of oneness. We will always be there to support any issue if it is for the welfare and cause of the Garo people in future,” the movement said.
