KSU nabs drugs supplier

MAWKYRWAT: After months of tracking the people involved in drugs smuggling to Mawkyrwat area in South West Khasi Hills District, the Khasi Students’ Union Mawkyrwat Circle on Tuesday apprehended one person who was suspected to be the main supplier, and also recovered 0.5 gram of heroin.
KSU Mawkyrwat Circle president, Elevenson Wanniang informed that the incident took place around 8 am, when a man identified as Teibor Syiemlieh, who is a tourist taxi driver, was dealing at the taxi stand.
“Because we have laid a trap for quite some time now, our members got suspected when the supplier told the local taxi driver, Widerstone Thongni (23) to carry the medicine and hand it to Rickle Marngar at Photjaud-Rangthong junction,” Wanniang said.
Wanniang also informed that after getting the drugs, the KSU immediately informed the members of the Union in Shillong to apprehend the supplier, Teibor Syiemlieh after he fled from Mawkyrwat to Shillong.
“He was detained from tourist taxi stand in Shillong and was handed over to the police,” Wanniang said.
Meanwhile, the police in Mawkyrwat informed that the drug which was suspected to be heroin may cost about Rs. 2000.
The police have also registered a case Under Section 8(c)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
