SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling inspected two sites, the GAD building and the current MBDA office near Camel Back Road, on Friday for a temporary office of the Shillong Municipal Board.
Dohling said the board’s permanent office will be on the premises of the proposed five-star hotel on Jail Road “but the project has been delayed due to financial problems of the contractor”.
The minister will submit his report to the High Level Committee on relocation of Harijan Colony residents.
At present, the quarters meant for municipality employees at Bishop Cotton Road house the civic board office.
Dohling said there are 128 employees of the board and the government wants to relocate them to the quarters from Harijan Colony and hence the need for shifting the office.
“Our objective is to ensure that our employees stay in those quarters since we want to give them better facilities and we want to take care of them. The quarters were made for them with facilities like separate kitchen, toilets and other amenities,” he added.
