SHILLONG: The Centre will table the proposed amendments to the Sixth Schedule in the winter session, said former ANVC-B leader Bernard N Marak.
The amendment has the provision to increase the seats in the GHADC from the current 30 to 40.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Marak said the delay in offering rehabilitation package is to be looked into at the earliest. Ministerial level and official level committees will also be formed.
“Once the amendment takes place, we are hopeful that the grassroots people will get the maximum benefit,” he added.
The agreement was designed to empower the grassroots people and ensure autonomy of the local hill tribals.
“We also came to know that Rs 15 crore will be released by CM to clear GHADC’s pending salaries. We are happy that CM, the Home Minister and Joint Secretary NE incharge are taking keen initiative to push the agreement forward unlike the previous government,” the statement said.
