SHILLONG: Representatives of government of Assam met the relatives of Tyngshain Phawa who was murdered by unknown miscreants at Khlieh Umwang, Ri-Bhoi district with the intention to sanction ex-gratia payment.

The relatives informed the members of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) that they had received certain communication from the Assam government through the Deputy Commissioner of West Karbi Anglong.

The DC of West Karbi Anglong sought information on the next of kin of Phawa so that Assam government could provide ex-gratia payment to the relatives.

In this connection, the HYC demanded the state government should intervene and also to sanction an ex-gratia payment to Phawa’s next of kin at the earliest.

According to the HYC, sanctioning ex-gratia payment to the next of kin of the deceased would implicate that Khlieh Umwang, Ri-Bhoi district falls under the jurisdiction of Assam.
