Bullet riddled body of former militant found
Imphal: A bullet riddled body of a former militant was found Sunday morning at Lokchao area in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, a senior police officer said. Superintendent of Police of Churachandpur, K Kabib said the deceased person was a former cadre of proscribed militant outfit United Socialist Revolutionary Army (USRA). The police suspect that he was killed by another militant group, the SP said. A case has been registered at Churachandpur police station for further investigation, the SP added. (PTI)
Manipur cops intensify efforts to rescue construction workers
Imphal: Police in Manipur on Sunday intensified efforts to rescue three construction workers kidnapped by suspected tribal militants on November 29. According to authorities, the workers identified as Veer Singh from Haryana and Ranjit and D.K. Yadav from Uttar Pradesh were kidnapped when they were working along the National Highway 2 in Kanglatongbi, Kangpokpi district. Police said that commandos were carrying out search operations in the mountain villages of Kangpokpi, a stronghold of some tribal outfits in the state. (IANS)
‘NEZCC established to preserve rich cultural heritage of NE’
Kohima: Nagaland Governor P B Acharya on Sunday said the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) was established with the main objective of promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the north east states. He said the north east is well known for its distinct culture and traditional lifestyle and offers a mixed culture of different religion. Every tribal group of these states has its own unique tribal culture, tribal folk dance, food and crafts. Though each tribe has its own identity, culture, tradition, people live in harmony and peacefully, Acharya said at the Hornbill festival. Acharya said that festival season is the best time to know the culture and traditional costumes of north east India and that festival are the integral part of tribes along with traditional dance and folk music. He said that NEZCC has been the forerunner for preserving, nurturing and disseminating the mosaic of cultures and art forms of the north eastern states since its inception with more than 5000 registered troupes under NEZCC. “Through this centre the rich composite culture of the country is also seen through the prism of the local cultural traits and identities,” he said. The governor said that north east India not only offers a completely different world of traditional music and folk dance but also emerged as one of the prime industry of rock music. People of North East are talented in arts, skilled in making handicrafts and handlooms and handicrafts and handlooms products are acclaimed worldwide he added. (PTI)
Manipur chief minister launches Rabi campaign
Imphal: With an objective to help the farmers to increase their productivity and achieve higher yield of various crops during Rabi season, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday launched the ‘Rabi Campaign 2018′ at Haotal Pangei, Imphal East. The chief minister said the launching of rabi campaign would have positive impact on the economy of the State. He mentioned that he would personally monitor the updates and improvement of the initiative every week. He said the government, private agencies and farmers need to work collectively so as to increase the production of agricultural and allied products. The government is planning to provide 100 per cent subsidy to those deserving farmers on providing loans and procurement of machineries, he mentioned. A new policy for the welfare of the farmers would be announced soon, he added. The chief minister stated that we need to discuss on why Manipur is still lagging behind in various sectors as compared to other States. The government is working tirelessly to uplift the lives of the people and to bring positive changes in the State. It is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double farmers’ income by 2022 in the country. Such initiative would definitely increase in the economy of the State, thus by making the farmers’ as self reliant and self sustained, he continued. Highlighting the huge talents and potentials of the people in every sector, he opined that if we work with transparency, honesty and sincerity, Manipur would become one of the best regions in the world.
