NEW DELHI: The Centre has announced a three-member state-level Environment Impact Assessment Authority for Meghalaya and another seven-member state-level Expert Appraisal Committee to look into environment related issues in the hill state for a term of three years.
Tony Trabert C Marak, a retired Indian Forest Service official, will be the Chairman of this authority. He will be assisted by Hiambok Jones Syiemlieh, a professor in the Department of Geography at North-Eastern Hill University, as a member and chief conservator of forests, Social Forestry and Environment, Government of Meghalaya will act as member secretary.
For the purpose of assisting the authority, the state in consultation with the Centre constituted the state-level Expert Appraisal Committee, a government notification said.
Nababrata Bhattacharjee, a green activist, will be the chairman of this committee with six other members. Deputy Conservator of Forests, Office of the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Social Forestry and Environment), and the Government of Meghalaya will act as secretary of the committee.
