SHILLONG: The 10th East Himalayan Expo, which was inaugurated by Governor Tathagata Roy on Monday at SRGT 2nd Ground in Polo, will be a platform for long term on-spot business tie-up for the entrepreneurs.
The expo is being organised from December 10 to 17 by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) in collaboration with the Commerce and Industries Department, Meghalaya.
North eastern region being endowed with rich natural resources has a potential to bring in more opportunities in the trade and tourism sector, he said. Roy also said that the expo can be a platform for entrepreneurs to strike business deals.
During the programme, Roy along with other dignitaries also released the “10th East Himalayan Expo Guide” book. This year, the East Himalayan Expo assumes siganificance especially when the country is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and it inspires all citizens to rededicate themselves towards the task of nation building.
The expo aims to widen trade horizons and enhance business links in the Eastern Himalayan region especially when there is focus of the Government on “Act East Policy”. This year, the event is also significant as Shillong has been selected as the 100th city under the Centre’s flagship “Smart Cities Mission” and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
This year over 200 leading companies, the expo elicited triple response as compared to last year.
The participation profile covers a number of companies representing MSME, APEDA and CAPART etc. The display profile covers a wide range of eco-friendly products. These include: organic products, packed foods, carpets, home furnishing, kitchenware, AYUSH products, textiles, woolen garments, leather goods, health and beauty products, food and confectionary items, handicrafts, garments, products of rural artisans, Self Help Groups, SME’s products and services.
The expo will be open from 10 am to 6 pm daily.
