HYC alleges anomalies in water supply scheme

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Nongthliew Circle alleged that the Rs 7, 41, 68,000 Umthlong combined Water Supply Scheme has not been implemented as per guidelines.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, HYC Nongthliew Circle president, Joblang Kharnaior said that the scheme sanctioned from the state plans to cater to the need of water supply at Umthlong village. In an inspection by the HYC along with EE Engineer, officers, Sordar, found that the pipe lines are laid carelessly.
There is no filter from the source Wah Lyngdoh and Wah Simon where the water is being tapped.
Further, Kharnaior also alleged that Rs 11.22 lakh water sedimentation tank which was constructed last year is showing signs of leakage.
According to him, the water supply in the entire Umthlong is not sufficient. The EE has assured to execute the work as per the guidelines.
