GUWAHATI: Twenty-five young men and women from across the Northeast have been groomed to take up entrepreneurial ventures and generate jobs in the adventure tourism sector through a 15-day business incubation training programme conducted by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE).
The objective of the training, which concluded at IIE on Monday, was to orient and train youths in the adventure tourism sector of the Northeast and help them undertake business ventures and generate employment.
North Eastern Council, Shillong, sponsored the training programme.
Speaking to reporters here, IIE director, Dr Abhijit Sharma said a series of training programmes have been conducted by the business incubation centre on adventure tourism since its inception at the institute in 2016 with about 200 entrepreneurs trained in the field of adventure tourism so far.
“More than 60 per cent of the trained entrepreneurs has started their business ventures and generated employment. IIE has ensured handholding support to the entrepreneurs for setting up of their ventures,” Dr. Sharma said.
Twenty five youths from different states of the Northeast took part in the incubation training programme which included mountaineering, trekking, basic rock climbing (both natural and artificial rock walls), jungle safari, jungle camping and water sports.
Apart from practical training, management topics such as introduction of adventure tourism, adventure tourism as a business venture, entrepreneurship, business communication, risk management, operations management and legal formalities, concept of homestays, eco- tourism and rural tourism were covered.
Assam Tourism Development Corporation chairman, Jayanta Malla Baruah distributed certificates among the trainees.
