SHILLONG: with as many  as 15  coal miners being trapped in the rat hole mines of East Jaintia Hills, Arch Bishop Dominic Jala has called for uniting with the families of those coal miners whose dear ones are trapped in the mines.

Asked what would be his message for the people of the state on Christmas, the Archbishop said, “ At Christmas while many people are concentrating on singing and caroling, the Church would like to be united with the families whose dear ones are trapped in the coal mines.”

He also said that while the whole world was rejoicing on Christmas, there are many people who were questioning themselves on how to establish peace, justice, honesty and development without corruption.

He also said that the Christmas was a time for the families to come together and experience the joys of Christmas

He also said  that it was time for everyone to  pray and stand with those families who  were   poor and were  experiencing troubles.

Meanwhile, the birth of Jesus Christ was celebrated with special services in different churches in the city  as all the churches were beautifully illuminated marking the arrival of Jesus Christ.

It may be mentioned that different parts of the city  are also illuminated and the city also witnessed huge traffic as people came out in large numbers for their last minute shopping.

Different commercial centres like Police Bazar and  Iewduh were bustling  with activities

As the festive season approached Shillong, a large number of tourists have also visited Shillong and most of the hotels in the city are making  good business and many tourists were seen visiting different churches.
