Three dead in Tripura accident
AGARTALA: Three persons, including a woman and a teenager, were charred to death and four others critically injured, when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, a car and a bike collided in Tripura’s Amtali area, police said on Sunday. A high speed bike dashed into the auto-rickshaw from behind and the three-wheeler collided with the car coming from the opposite direction erupting in a huge ball of fire. “The two passengers of the auto-rickshaw were charred to death on the spot and another succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Four others onboard the other vehicles sustained critical injuries in the accident that took place some 12 kms south of here on the Agartala-Sabroom National Highway late on Saturday. All vehicles burnt down to their chassis before the fire fighters reached the spot. Police were yet to identify the disfigured bodies. (IANS)

Security arrangements made for X-mas, New Year in Mizoram
AIZAWL: Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful celebrations of the coming Christmas and New Year festivals in the Christian-dominated Mizoram state, a senior police official said on Sunday. Nine duty posts were being set up at places in and around Aizawl, where drug users and drinkers used to congregate, DIG (Northern Range) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte told PTI. Round-the-clock patrolling by police personnel on foot have been in place, Khiangte said. “Joint coordination committees were constituted in all the eight district headquarters with the officials of the police and excise and narcotics departments,” he said. Strict vigil was being maintained at the entry points along borders with Assam, Tripura and Myanmar, the official said. (PTI)
