‘Tourism can create employment for local youths’

NONGPOH: In a bid to boost tourism at Marngar Lake, one of the famous tourist spots in Ri Bhoi district, the Marngar Eco Tourism & Cultural Development Society on Saturday inaugurated the Marngar Lake Resort and Restaurant within the campus of the lake.
‘‘Ri Bhoi is one of the districts which has a high tourism potential and through this sector we can create employment for the local youths. Tourism is a major industry in the world which has uplifted the economies of many countries in the world”, Mayralborn Syiem said during the inauguration of the resort and restaurant.
He was attending as the chief guest in the presence of the Raid Marngar Pa’iem Richard Syiem and president of the society, Primosh Lyngdoh, among other representatives and residents of the area.
The Marngar Lake Resort was sanctioned by the Tourism department at an estimated cost Rs 62 lakh, whereas the Marngar Lake Restaurant was constructed by the Society at an estimated cost Rs 2 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Syiem lauded the efforts of the representatives who had properly utilised the government scheme for the overall benefit of the local populace especially in enhancing the tourism sector.
He also urged the representatives of the society to maintain cleanliness and discipline while welcoming tourists from different parts of the country. The addition of the resort along with the restaurant in Marngar Lake can now boost the flow of tourists to the area that is famous all over the country, he said..
