The Christmas night became a dreadful one for the family of Salam Prasanta, who was returning home from a party with his friends in a car when he was shot dead in a road rage.
Prasanta, was a resident of Changangei Uchekon, Imphal West near Imphal International Airport has a 3-year- old daughter and his wife is pregnant with their second child.
After hearing the news about his death, angry residents blocked Tiddim Road (the road leading to Imphal International Airport) at Changangei Uchekon in protest against the murder.
According to reports, Prasanta and his friends were returning home in two cars after attending a Christmas party. At around 9:30 pm when they were about to cross Naoremthong (Naorem Bridge) located at Imphal West under Lamphel Police Station, they came face to face with another car. Both the cars stopped and a commotion started between the drivers to back off to make way for the other car to pass.
Suddenly both the parties got off from their cars and started yelling at each others. The man in the driving seat of the car coming from the opposite direction took out his gun and allegedly shot Prasanta on the chest. He died on the spot.
Strongly condemning the incident, the protestors demanded the authority concerned to punish the perpetrator at the earliest.
