SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Wednesday accepted the resignation of its chairman, P N Syiem and refuted his allegations of sidelining him.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, president of PDF Ivanlumlang Marbaniang said Syiem was present during the central executive committee (CEC) meetings on September, November though he failed to attend the  recent one in December.

“It is wrong to say that the party did not consult him. The party did not sideline him, we respect him,” he said.

Further, he said Syiem instead demanded the removal of the president and the general secretary, Auspicious Lyngdoh but the party did not sideline Syiem despite the demands.

Turning to the Mawsynram PDF zonal committee being dissolved, Marbaniang said the PDF will meet the zonal committee members and the letter to dissolve the zonal committee has not been accepted yet.

The post of chairman in the PDF is currently vacant following the resignation of Syiem.

The list of party candidates for council polls is likely be out next weeks. The  PDF MLA and cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh said the party would make an effort to field candidates in all the constituencies.

As for the Mawsynram seat, Auspicious said some have expressed their willingness to come forward and contest the elections from Mawsynram.

The party members maintained that the exit of Syiem would  not have a negative impact on the party’s poll prospects. “PDF is still strong and united,” Auspicious said.
