SHILLONG: Meghalaya government was asked to provide compensation to the families of the three local miners trapped for 22 days at a rat-hole mine at Ksan in East Jaintia Hills.

In a statement issued here, the president of EJNC, central executive council (CEC), Sambormi Lyngdoh said poverty forced the victims to take up coal mining despite the ban by National Green Tribunal (NGT).

The three local miners trapped are: Melambok Dkhar (22), Dimonme Dkhar (20), Shalabas Dkhar (20).

On the other hand, the EJNC argued that the opposition Congress should not take advantage of the situation and should instead play proactive role in finding ways and means to find solution to the disaster rather than finding fault.
