SHILLONG: NABARD has sanctioned Rs 200-crore loan, double the amount given last year, to Meghalaya under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).
This is the first time since 1996 that the sanctioned amount crossed the Rs 200-crore milestone, a statement issued by NABARD said.
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in a meeting with Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, the chairman of NABARD, had sought higher allocation in view of the infrastructural gaps in the state.
Congratulating the state government, YK Rao, officer in charge of the state regional office of NABARD, said, “The additional sanction of Rs 100 crore for the state is a proof of the huge importance NABARD lays on the overall development of this region.”
The 90 rural infrastructure projects cover critical areas like roads and bridges, rural drinking water supply, power, minor irrigation and veterinary hospitals.
