SHILLONG: The chief executive member of the KHADC, HS Shylla, has reiterated the demand for inner line permit (ILP) to protect the indigenous community and the settlement of other Indian nationals in the wake of the opposition against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
Refusing to comment much on the controversial bill, Shylla said on Monday, “What is needed now is for the government to implement the ILP. It is crucial for the government to give us the ILP. If that is done, then we are able to take care of the minority people.”
Maintaining that the KHADC does not have any issue with foreign nationals, he said their fight is against inter-state influx as Khasi is a small community and they fear influx of migrants.
Slamming the previous Congress government, the KHADC chief said the youth wanted ILP but instead they were given the Meghalaya Resident Safety and Security Act.
“It is like asking for fish but getting a snake instead. The MSSA only facilitate tourists and visitors of other Indian nationals, we are apprehensive of their settlement here. How are the organisations being lured into accepting the entry and exit points,” he added.
