SHILLONG: Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions and Associations has extended its support to striking employees and workers of the country who have resorted to two-day countrywide general strike on January 8 and 9 as per call given by 10 central Trade Unions and 12 independent service federation of the country.
In this connection, a workers’ rally was held on Wednesday at Additional Secretariat Parking Lot here.
General secretary of MJCTU & A, J L Das told reporters on the demand to withdraw National Pension Scheme (NPS) and to restore old Pension scheme. He also demanded before the Center to settle the 12-point charter of demands without any further delay.
The workers rally also resolved to send a copy of the resolution to the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
Some of the 12-point charter of demands included ensuring universal social security cover for all workers, minimum wage of not less than Rs 18000 per month with indexation.
The MJCTU & A also demanded the assurance for pension of not less than Rs 6000 per month for the entire working population including unorganized sector workers, to stop disinvestment in central/state public sector undertakings.
