Council polls: Former Cong & NPP leaders on UDP fourth list
SHILLONG: The UDP has released the fourth list of candidates to contest the council polls — two for Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and one for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
In a statement issued here, secretary of State Election Committee Jemino Mawthoh said the UDP State Election Committee approved the names following recommendations from the respective UDP circles and also districts.
The candidates are Bhawan Chyrmang who resigned from the Congress and will be contesting from Saphai, Zosiama Thianglai who resigned as NPP president in East Jaintia Hills and will be contesting from Saipung and Frankie Paul Marbaniang, who will contest from Mawkynrew.

Kuldeep Saini is new BSF IG
SHILLONG: BSF Meghalaya Frontier has got a new Inspector General after the posting of Lalatendu Mohanti, IPS IG to Force HQ, New Delhi. Kuldeep Saini has taken over the charge as inspector general in Shillong on Tuesday. He has come on his permanent posting from Subsidiary Training Centre, Jodhpur (Rajasthan). An officer of 1984 (Direct Entry) batch and one of the most experienced officers to serve all over the country, Saini has been awarded with President Police Medal for Meritorious Service and President Police Medal for Distinguish Service, besides other awards. He also served in the Valley (Jammu & Kashmir) when the militancy was at its peak. The new IG emphasised on the use of technology for effective border management.

BSF ADG visits state
SHILLONG: Sanjeev Kumar Singh, IPS, ADG of BSF Headquarters, SDG (Eastern Command), Kolkata, visited Frontier HQ, BSF Meghalaya and its AOR to review the security scenario and area familiarisation from January 6 to 8. It is the first visit after he took charge as ADG (Eastern Command). On Tuesday, he interacted with BSF officers, jawans and briefed on operational situation of Meghalaya. He visited the border outpost at Dawki of West Jaintia Hills, Pyrdwah and Lynghat of East Khasi Hills. He interacted with troops deployed on the border and also reviewed the security scenario of the Meghalaya border. The ADG also interacted with Border Guards of Bangladesh and handed over sweets as a gesture of good relationship between the two border guarding forces.
