SHILLONG: A standup comedian from Meghalaya, Abhineet Mishra, has taken a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AICC president Rahul Gandhi and the 20 Congress MLAs in Meghalaya over the mine disaster in East Jaintia Hills.
Mishra, who uploaded the video on YouTube, has received 17,000 views since Sunday. The video has been uploaded after all efforts to rescue the 15 trapped miners in a rat-hole mine at Ksan in East Jaintia Hills have failed even after 27 days.
In the six-minute clip devoted to the mine tragedy, Mishra said, “Our nation and our media are fascinated with other things — why did Rahul Gandhi wink at Modi. How many times did Tim Paine’s child pee on Rishab Pant and how many times did Taimur Ali Khan flushed the toilet today.”
Mishra in his video highlighted the lack of coverage of the Northeast by mainstream media through his acts. He also PM Modi for visiting Bogibeel bridge in Assam and the region two times recently but not visiting the mine site in East Jaintia Hills.
Stating that the issue should not be politicised, he also slammed Rahul Gandhi by saying that 20 MLAs of the Congress are there in Meghalaya and they could have done many things on the matter.
The comedian started the video with a disclaimer that the act is “not comedy” and the fact that it has not been performed, as is the norm for most comic sets, in front of a live audience. He shared his thoughts with no crowd listening to him as a symbolic action to show how stories of the northeastern states are not heard.
He also took a jibe by saying India is talking about bullet trains to cover a distance of 3,000 km in 20 hours but 10 high-powered pumps to rescue the trapped miners took 15 days to reach the site in East Jaintia from Delhi, a distance of about 2,000 km.
