SHILLONG: As a mark of opposition to the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) on Saturday organised a ‘silent protest’.

The members of the Mahila Congress protested against the move of the Government with placards and banners in the party state headquarter in Shillong

Later talking to reporters, MPMC president, Joplin Scott Shylla said that they had decided to march to the BJP office from Congress Bhavan on January 16.

She also said that they would organise a public meeting in front of the BJP office to explain the people why they are launching this campaign against the amendment bill.

Maintaining that the Bill will have an adverse impact on the future generation, she  added that the decision of the BJP led NDA Government to bulldoze in passing the amendment bill is a clear reflection that they were not bothered about the feelings and sentiments of the people of the Northeastern region.

She said that the passing of the amendment bill in Lok Sabha was an insult to the people of the region.
